Hi... I'm Rosanna and I run Songbird Music Space.

I love to climb mountains, swim in the sea and climb trees. And I LOVE music!

I was very lucky to have lots of music lessons when I was young and then I studied music at King's College London and recorders at the Royal College of Music. I then worked at the Sage Gateshead for a while and then started teaching recorders and piano and slowly started to build my teaching career. We moved into our beautiful home at Ushaw Historic House and Gardens in County Durham in April 2022.

My teaching style has developed over the years from traditional music lessons to now being much more free and focused on lots of movement, improvisation, singing and exploring!

Our sessions take lots of different forms... 1:1 piano sessions; more general music sessions involving music production, field recording, song writing and composing; therapeutic music sessions for people with learning disabilities; kids' music clubs and group improvisation sessions. At the moment our youngest 'student' is aged 4 and the oldest nearly 80!

I believe that music is best learnt with our whole bodies, not just our brains and fingers. Melody is best learnt and understood through singing and rhythm is learnt through movement. So we don't spend half an hour sitting at the piano bashing out scales. We delve down into what music is actually made up of. I combine methods and techniques from Dalcroze, Kodaly and Edwin Gordon (amongst others) and create something different for whoever walks through the door (take a look at our blog page for a bit more detail on our philosophy). What I really want is for people to fall in love with making music in the way that is best for them.

This video gives a little explanation of my teaching style:
